WordPress Daily Writing Prompt #2832 for July 24, 2026
If I could have dinner with any fictional character, who would I choose?
Just one character? That feels too limiting. Instead, I would choose an entire group from a well-loved crime series: The Women’s Murder Club from the thrilling James Patterson series.
Set against the backdrop of San Francisco, the series follows four professional women who combine their unique expertise to solve the city’s toughest murder cases:
- Lindsay Boxer: A hard-working SFPD homicide detective who leads the investigations.
- Claire Washburn: The chief medical examiner who uncovers vital clues during autopsies.
- Cindy Thomas: An ambitious crime reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle.
- Yuki Castellano: A fierce district attorney who rounds out the team.
- NOTE: In 3rd Degree (the 3rd book of the series), founding club member and assistant district attorney Jill Bernhardt is tragically murdered by a terrorist group known as the August Spies. Yuki Castellano joins the Club in 4th of July (the 8th book of the series). There are 26 core books in the series.
What makes this series so compelling is the seamless blend of teamwork and genuine friendship. These women leverage their respective positions in law enforcement and the press to share confidential information and crack complex cases. Outside the yellow crime scene tape, they constantly meet to support one another through promotions, heartbreaks, and courtroom traumas. Patterson delivers these stories in fast-paced, addictive thrillers with signature numbered titles, running from 1st to Die all the way to 25 Alive and beyond.
Meeting at Susie’s Cafe
If this dinner date were to happen, there is only one acceptable location: Susie’s Cafe.
In the books, Susie’s is the ultimate safe haven for the club. It is the central hangout spot where the staff knows the women well enough to grant them total privacy. It is an intimate, vibrant venue filled with live music and incredible food.
Because I share their love for authentic Caribbean and Mexican fare, I can already picture the table setup. We would be sharing plates of crispy plantain chips, sipping a margarita (or two), and diving deep into their latest investigation.
Why This is My Ultimate Dinner Date
James Patterson is one of my absolute favorite authors, and murder mysteries have always been my go-to genre. Sitting down with these characters would be a dream come true.
Professionally, each woman has achieved incredible expertise in her chosen career field. Personally, they represent the ultimate standard of female friendship—fiercely intelligent, independent, and unconditionally supportive.
To sit at that corner table at Susie’s, listening to them piece together clues while sharing a meal, is an experience that no single fictional character could ever match. I truly cannot imagine a better dinner date.
A Note on Community Moderation: I welcome civil debate and differing perspectives. However, dehumanizing language, personal attacks, or misinformation will be removed. Let’s focus on ideas, not insults.
