Rethinking the Future: Microchips and Holograms
1. The Normalization of Microchipping
My first prediction focuses on technology that actually exists today, but its widespread application will look entirely different. I believe that within two decades, human microchipping will become standard practice.
While the exact logistics are up for debate—such as whether they will be implanted at birth or upon turning 18—the depth of the data they hold will be massive. These chips could seamlessly integrate our:
- Finances and banking details
- Contact information and current residency
- Employment histories
- Medical records and health metrics
They could even store our political affiliations and voter registration. (Though we might want to keep that last part quiet, or a president might try to fast-track it via executive order to combat voter fraud!)
2. Mass-Market Holograms
My second prediction is the rise of consumer-grade holograms. In 20 years, holographic tech will be as common as any social media platform or streaming service today.
Instead of staring at flat screens, we will use 3D holograms for everyday life:
- Professional uses: Immersive Zoom meetings, remote job interviews, and collaborative workspaces.
- Socializing: Dating apps featuring lifelike 3D client profiles instead of flat grid photos.
- Entertainment: Watching movies where you are physically standing in the middle of the action.
Best of all? Calling your mom would be an entirely new experience. Catching up via a 3D projection in your living room sounds infinitely better than squinting at a video chat on a phone screen.
