WordPress Daily Writing Prompt #2801 for June 23, 2026
The best advice I would give to someone younger than me is to start saving and investing small amounts of money early, to stop comparing themselves to others, and to take care of their health. Consistent saving turns tiny habits into financial freedom, while avoiding social comparison protects your mental energy so you can focus on your own unique path.
Actionable wisdom generally centers on three core areas:
- Financial Literacy: Save and invest consistently, even if it is just a few dollars a month. Understanding compound interest early on is one of the greatest long-term advantages you can build.
- Mental Resilience: What feels catastrophic today often fades into insignificance within a few years. Avoid the trap of comparing your behind-the-scenes life with everyone else’s highlight reel.
- Prioritize Your Well-being: Take care of your physical and mental health now. Good habits formed early compound into a lifetime of energy and confidence.
Forming good habits early on in your life will directly affect your future, for the better!
As I was preparing to close out this daily writing prompt, it occurred to me that I have a fourth piece of advice. It’s something I wish I would have started early in life. I’ll start by sharing a quote that really matters to me:
If you have the choice between being right and being kind, choose being kind.
— Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, American philosopher
Being kind—to both yourself and others—requires a balance of self-compassion, self-respect, empathy, and mutual regard. This balance transforms kindness from an abstract concept into a daily lifestyle and an intentional act that fosters true community. Choosing kindness over being right does not mean your opinion has no value, nor does it imply weakness. It doesn’t mean you cannot be right, or that you must keep the peace at a great personal expense. Instead, it means you refuse to belabor a point so aggressively that it inflicts harm on yourself or others. [1, 2]
In summary, my best advice to a younger person is: save money, don’t compare yourself to others, take care of yourself, and be kind.
A challenge for my readers: let’s talk about it!
This piece explores how small habits—from saving a few dollars to choosing empathy—compound over time to shape our future. If you could go back and give your younger self one piece of advice about a small habit to start early, what would it be?
Specifically, when it comes to kindness, when has a time you chose kindness over winning an argument changed a relationship or preserved your own peace of mind? I’d love to hear your stories in the comments!
A Note on Community Moderation: I welcome civil debate and differing perspectives. However, dehumanizing language, personal attacks, or misinformation will be removed. Let’s focus on ideas, not insults.
