Put aside party affiliation. I am writing this purely as a U.S. citizen. I know without a doubt that I am not the only American who has grown completely exhausted by President Trump’s on-again, off-again announcements regarding the war with Iran. The man couldn’t pin the tail on the truth donkey even with his blindfold removed.
President Trump’s messaging on the Iran war has been highly contradictory, oscillating wildly between declaring the conflict practically won and threatening immediate, devastating military strikes. To look at the sheer whiplash of it all, here is a quick month-by-month summary of his “it’s over” versus “no it’s not” declarations:
- February 28 – March 2, 2026: Trump officially announced combat operations. Two days later, he stated the war would end within 4 to 5 weeks.
- April 1 – April 7, 2026: Trump gave whiplash-inducing statements, saying hours apart that the war would end in 3 days, followed by threats to wipe out Iranian civilization if demands were not met. On April 7, he announced a two-week ceasefire.
- April 20 – April 21, 2026: He told Bloomberg it was “highly unlikely” he’d extend the ceasefire without a deal, warning “lots of bombs start going off”. Yet, roughly eight hours later, he reversed course and extended the deadline indefinitely to allow peace talks to continue.
- June 11 – June 14, 2026: Trump temporarily canceled strikes and proclaimed the conflict “effectively over”, declaring a deal was imminent within 24 to 48 hours. A memorandum of understanding was soon reported, though never fully published or implemented.
- July 8 – July 11, 2026: Trump officially announced that the ceasefire was over. However, when asked by the press if a return to total war was imminent, he stated “I don’t think so,” predicting any new actions would be over “very quickly”, while also warning that the U.S. could destroy the country’s bridges and energy supply within a single hour if negotiations fail.
Major news agencies across the political spectrum have published complete, day-by-day timelines of these contradictions. It is widely reported that Trump has declared this war or a peace deal over, won, or nearly complete at least 38 to 42 times since it began.
As an average citizen and a veteran, let me tell you the truth: Operation Epic Fury has never been over. I am deeply concerned about how long this conflict will drag on, and the devastating toll it will take on our military personnel, our economy, and our national morale. I fear all three will not come out of this unscathed.
