Daily writing prompt
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Today’s WordPress Daily Writing Prompt is: “If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

My first thought was wondering if I will ever be able to answer daily prompt questions like this with one answer. As is often the case with me, today’s answer has multiple options. There are a few places I would love to live in. This is not the result of indecisiveness. It’s just the truth, for me. I would be thrilled to live in any one of the four places I love, listed below.

A wide sandy beach along a large body of water, featuring tall grassy sand dunes on the left under a blue sky with wispy clouds.

Pierport Beach is at the end of 13 Mile Road, in Manistee County, Michigan, 5 miles west of Bear Lake, where I grew up. We often visited the beach. It was fun to drink water and rinse the sand off our feet at the artesian well called Old Facefull. There are a few old, pretty homes overlooking the beach. As a child, I wished that I lived in one of them. I still have that wish today.

I always have been transfixed by the lush green of Ireland, its beautiful coasts, Celtic history, famous legends, and fascinating folklore. It would be lovely to be entertained by a local folk-music band jamming out a trad session while feasting on cottage pie and a pint of cider. Taking a long walk in the country-side with my Border Collie would be so relaxing and refreshing, at the same time. Living in a place so pretty—it would be soul-inspiring to me.

A panoramic view of a lush green landscape featuring rolling hills covered in grass and purple heather, a blue lake, and a distinct cone-shaped mountain under a partly cloudy blue sky.

A high-angle view of a large blue lake bordered by lush green, forested hills and a prominent flat-topped mountain bluff in the background.

I fell in love with New Zealand when the first film of The Lord Of The Rings came out in 2001. The great beauty and varied landscapes of this lovely country completely captured how I envisioned what J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth looked like. My favorite book series by one of my favorite authors, and Peter Jackson’s ground-breaking trilogy, made New Zealand one of my favorite places. The beauty of this country is breath-taking.

And last, but not least, I would love to live in the house that belonged to my Oma and Opa in Kurzach, Germany.

Kurzach is a small village part of the municipal district of Spiegelberg in the Rems-Murr-Kreis district of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Situated roughly 45 km northeast of Stuttgart within the Swabian-Franconian Forest.

I had the wonderful privilege of visiting Oma and Opa and actually staying in this house 3 times as a child, with my mother.

I have so many fond memories of this place. The countryside is beautiful. There was a donkey that brayed loudly and for a long time, every morning. The neighbors just up the street let me bottle-feed their calves. I slept under a down filled comforter formally known as a Daunendecke, but my mom called them “Tick Beds.” On chilly nights, mom or Oma would put a copper bed warmer filled with hot water under the down comforter to “pre-heat” the bed before I settled in for sleep. The bed warmer was attached to a long rod with a wooden handle. In the morning, we opened the windows and draped the tick beds over the window sills to air them out and fill them with sunshine. Oma used to sneak chocolate to me when Mom wasn’t looking, she would smile and shush me, it was our little secret.

So much love in this house. I wish I was there.
